South Central is a very cool place to live in.Its has very good schools and kick back locations to relax.Even though South Central has a lot of gang violence I think it can improve on that. For my experience I enjoy living here in South Central.I also like attending school here because your teachers really care for your education.
I learned much about the Watts Riots. The riots began in August 11,1965.It started when white officers arrested Marquette Frye after he was driving recklessly for drinking. His brother Ronald was with him at the moment but left the scene to get his mother to claim the car because it was going to be towed away. The officers arrested Ronald and his mother for trying to protect Marquette when this was not true. The crowd that surrounded the scene was upset and someone spitted on one of the officers face which he ended up arrested. The crowd was infuriated and began the riots.I thought this event was important because people should know why people were angry and began the riots.
Another event i learned about was the L.A riots. On the day of March 16,1991 a 15 year old girl entered a liquor store to buy some orange juice. When she picked up the juice and put it in her backpack and took out the money to pay at the counter the store owners sister was in the counter and she thought that she was going to steal it.As the the girl turned the store owners sister took out a gun that was behind the counter and shot her.On the day of the court day she was not incarcerated she only got fined with 500 dollars and placed on probation. The riots began in April 29,1992 when four white officers were found not guilty for beaten up Rodney King.People was shocked that the officers were on tape and they were still not convicted. The people was disappointed and started the riots. Its important because people should know why the people were mad.
But the most interesting event that I enjoyed learning about was based on the crack epidemic. It started when the CIA shipped in crack cocaine to the United States around 1981.The CIA needed money to supply the soldiers from Nicaragua with guns to help them fight the Sandinistas named after the Sandino, but the United States had no money to support them.Ronald Reagen which led the United States found a solution to there problem. The solution was to sell crack cocaine in the ghettos of the US.So they shipped in the drugs from El Salvador to Texas and Arkansas then to LA.They also set up connections between big drug dealers in LA,Compton and Nicaragua. With the money they made selling the drugs they used it to supply Nicaraguans with weapons.
I think the community is changing by the violence. It has decreased compared to the past during the Watts and LA riots. The riots have made a change. But about the crack cocaine I do not think it will change. The people that got addicted to the drug have a more possibility they wont recover.
